The very popular tutorial for pre-processing images in PixInsight has just received a good update. A new section has been added to cover the use of the SubframeSelector script. This is used to allow the user to exclude and approve exposures for use in stacking, and quite importantly, to optimise the approved exposures' weightings.
The tutorial describes the way to ensure that each exposure weighting is optimised to be relative to the FWHM and Eccentricity of the stars in the exposure as well as the exposure's Signal-to-Noise Ratio. A very customisable expression to have SubframeSelector calculate these for your exposures is discussed. This is important so that the best exposures have priority in the stacking process, giving the best result possible from stacking your dataset.
The addition of this section has pushed other sections down numerically and in order for this new section to fit well into the tutorial as a whole, minor edits were made to the overall text. If you would like to look this over, follow this direct link to the tutorial. The new section is section 5, which is found directly at this link.
